Girl Scout Cookie Hamburgers for your Doll

Thin Mint Hamburgers for your Doll. Here is a fun recipe to use with your Girl Scout cookies. Take two vanilla wafers, one GS Thin Mint Cookie, red icing and green icing to make these doll sized hamburgers. Take the first vanilla wafer and place it on a plate with the flat side up (rounded side down). Squirt a little of the icing (either color) on to the center of the wafer to hold the Thin Mint in place. Add the thin mint on top, with the flat side down. Decorate the top of the thin mint with green icing to represent lettuce and a little red icing to depict tomatoes. Finish off with the second vanilla wafer, flat side down. Enjoy with your favorite 18-inch doll!

Winter Hat for your Doll

Here is a fun winter craft for you and your doll. All you need is a knit glove (adult, one size fits all), scissors and a pony tail holder. We got our gloves at Walmart, two pairs for $1.25 and the pony tail holders are about $2 for a package of six, also at Walmart.
Take your glove and cut off the finger tips (including the thumb). Then slit open the sides of each of the finger on the glove (again including the thumb). Now your glove has a fringe look. Pick your favorite pony tail holder and wrap it around the glove several times until it is tight. Your doll has a winter hat. You can adjust the pony tail holder as needed or even switch out the pony tail holder to match your doll's outfit.

Last Day in the Bahamas

This morning we took an early morning swim in the ocean and had the beach to ourselves. Our bags are packed and it's just about time to head to the airport. Katie is feeding the stray cats one more time before we head out.

Easter Basket for your Doll

Make these adorable Easter baskets for your favorite American Girl doll. All you need is paper candy cups available in the baking section at craft stores (such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby) and some card stock paper. Use card stock to make the handle, the flowers, and leaves. You can also make the handle out of a pipe cleaner. An easy way to make a homemade stencil is to use the plastic lid from a yogurt container. Trace your stencil with a permanent marker and cut out with pointed scissors.
Fill your doll's basket with shredded paper available in the gift bag section of crafting stores or use traditional Easter grass in green or pink. Add your favorite doll-sized candy, such as wrapped chocolate eggs or malted eggs, and your doll is all set.

Make a Doll Bed for your 18-inch Doll

Here’s a easy project that you’ll love, and just in time for a fun spring break activity, from the doll pattern blog of Peggy Britton. Visit her blog at http://www.dollclothespatterns.net/blog. No tools required. Now that your doll has a new bed, order her some cute PJs from our Emily Rose at Home collection, complete with robes and slippers, www.emilyroseathome.com/SusieHyde.

Step 1: Buy a single piece of garden border.
These are the small sections that clip together to form the decorative edging around an outdoor flower bed. They are available in many different styles.

Try to find one that looks like a mini-headboard.

This one was purchased at Michael’s craft store. Any store with a garden center, or gardening area may have this type of border. This item is seasonal. You will probably only find it in the stores during gardening season. For best selection, shop early in the season.
There is a small loop on the right side for joining this piece of border to the next one. If it bothers you, just cut it off with your wire cutters and file any sharp edges to prevent injury.

Step 2: Buy a basket.
This basket was purchased at Michael’s craft store for $14.99. It’s part of their “Natural Storage Solutions.” It has a metal support structure inside that makes the basket quite sturdy.

Look for a basket that’s about 19-inches long and at least 9-inches wide. This one is 19-inches long by 13-inches wide by 5 inches tall.
Turn the basket upside-down. To create the ‘headboard,’ stick the garden border through the basket on one of the short sides. Anchor the border’s ‘legs’ with metal twist ties to prevent movement.

Step 3: Spray paint the bed.
You may find it’s easier and requires less shopping time if you select your bedding fabrics first. Then select your paint color to coordinate with the fabric colors.

Mattress made from 1/2-inch thick foam. If your basket is shorter than 5-inches tall, you may want to use a 1-inch thick mattress to add height.

It's Girl Scout Cookie time. We would love to take your cookie order, if there aren't any local Girl Scouts in your neighborhood. Katie hopes to sell 650 boxes of cookies this year. Cookies are still $3.50 a box.
This year's varieties include: Carmamel deLites (also known as Samoas), Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties (with chocolate), Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Lemonades, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot (shortbread and chocolate) and the new Shout Outs (ginger snap style cookie).
If you live outside the Houston area, we can mail your order to you. Cookies will be delivered in mid-February. Or you can support our troop by donating your cookies to our cookie share recipient, Meals on Wheels for Kids, which serves lunches to 1,200 impoverished kids daily in the Houston area.

Shoe Holder Craft Project

Here is a great craft project for your 18-inch doll and her shoes. It's easy and fun, and sure to chase away any winter vacation boredom. All you need is an empty cereal box, craft foam, craft glue, scissors, and paint.

Cut a cereal box down to three 2" pieces. Paint the insides. Let dry. Stack them on top of each other, gluing in place. Cut craft foam to fit around all four sides and the back. Glue in place with tacky glue. Decorate by painting a flower or some other design on the top.
